I'm full agreement that the worse case scenario ending is cannon. The rest of the endings are what ifs. After all horror story, a true horror story. Nobody lives or a possible bitter sweet ending (not true horror technically.). But yah great review and impressions. Now going make me a horror story, hahaha.

Respectfully, i have to make a counter-argument that making your game dark doesn't necessarily make it scary either. I think it shouldn't be viewed as taboo for developers to want to try different methods in creating dread.

Oh, I'd like to state that Major Minor's Majestic March plays very well once you learn how to use the Wiimote correctly. The game doesn't help at all, and moving the controller up and down as shown will not work. Instead, simply hold out your arm and raise/lower your forearm at the elbow. Do that and it becomes very playable and far more enjoyable. I'll give it points for being original.

Silent hill 4 was the first Silent Hill game I played. It came on a demo out of an Xbox magazine. I fell in love with it because it was so different. I bought the full game when it finally came out then played Silent Hill 2 after. I remember someone actually trying to sell me Silent Hill 2 at School, but at that time I didn't know what Silent Hill even was. Also when I bought the guide for 4 it was only $0.01 at Best Buy so I got 2 of them, two Penny's. I always thought that was so weird.

The second remake feels like someone put a walkthrough of the Wii game in 4x playback speed. A while back someone said that Super mario rpg was the most faithful remake that they ever played, and I think this game is the most unfaithful remake ever created. Also, what are the new character models?? The Wii version actually had characters that looked like I could see exist in real life, in the remake, the makeover of everyone's model was completely unnecessary, and unrealistic..

You don’t get super cars like that after a life of nothing jobs unless you were born rich and able to screw off for years. I don’t buy all this was amassed on trades and being good with money. I remember watching my mom and dad play Silent Hill 4 when i was like 11 to 12 years old. On somedays when i came from school and the lights were out and no-one else was home. I was scared to enter my home because of the Silent hill 4 room hauntings.

The original is still a kickass concept, looks like a Silent Hill in that house filled with darkness and those damned dudes! When you vanquish darkness you get weapons, Paula being one of them...even the title makes sense!

The visuals are great, the sound design is good and the flower monster is pretty creative, but the story is unbearable to sit through. You know it's bad when the characters complain about losing followers on social media...

Silent Hill 4 ❤

Silent Hill got too big for its good. Time to forget it, and just wait for its spiritual sequel. Because all this shit is SO bad, but if they say it's silent hill, it's silent hill. Do you still like silent hill?

Young Hikiko is a true champion. Acquiring the misprinted Silent Hill "3" box and keeping it to this day is wonderfully petty.

This is the best review I've seen of Silent Hill 4 yet. Highlighting the extreme strengths of the game, the lore and its experimentalism, and where it fell short. Being too far from the source material and too experimental the gameplay was completely lackluster. The game became all story and world building, and nothing more. Too ahead of its time, yet it encapsulates what makes Silent Hill great. This was made in Tandem with Silent Hill 3, so it was the beginning of the end. Western meets eastern developers. Silent Hill vs Resident Evil. But Silent Hill was doomed to fail from before its first ever release. It refuses to die. The game mechanics itself in silent hill 4 explain the lore. The protagonist is the antagonist. And Silent Hill, is the hell inside your own mind. The cult is the portal, and Henrys "portal" was the mirror in his room, and letting the soul of a child murderer consume him. Thats the story.

Imo silent hill 4 is most deserving of a remake. It’s my favorite of the main 4 (sh3 being a really close second, but I just love Henry too much). Maybe slightly more fleshing out of Henry (which imo I think the game actually does well, but I understand the average player wanting more info). As well as really honing in on what worked in the first half and tweaking the second. Overall, I am glad that sh4 is getting more praise as I felt it was over hated, it has flaws but it’s still an intriguing and fun experience.

Even though it's not the best game in the series, Downpour still holds a special place in my heart. Vatra games was a team from my homeland, Czech Republic, from town Brno to which I hold many great memories and it always felt like such an honor and amazing thing, that team from our small country could make another entry to such big and important game series. I'm glad it was made and I thank to every person in Vatra for that. And as always, amazing work Hikiko!
